Lake Mývatn
and gems of the north
There is no place on earth like Lake Mývatn and its surroundings. Otherworldly landscapes, ranging from lunar (the Americans came here on a training mission before the first Moon landing) to the ethereal beauty of Dimmuborgir (or "Dark Forts" — rumoured to be the home of both elves and the Icelandic Yule Lads).
Bathing in the north
Here you can also take a dip in the famous Mývatn nature baths, take in the geothermal splendours of Námaskarð and Krafla and of course enjoy the famous hospitality of this utterly unique place. You’ve never experienced anything like Lake Mývatn.
The Mývatn area also has plenty of trails and walking paths, as well as roads leading into the Highlands. If you’re in the mood to drive a little further afield you will find the awe-inspiring Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe.
The possibilities are endless — be sure to prioritize what you want to see and do because you won’t have time for all the brilliant sights and activities this magnificent area has to offer.
