Outside of Akureyri, you will find all the treasures which Northeast Iceland has to offer – diamonds that are simply waiting to be discovered.
The former fishing village of Siglufjörður, which has been transformed in recent years into a glorious destination in its own right, is just an hour's drive away.
The islands of Hrísey and Grímsey (where can you literally cross the Arctic Circle and receive a certificate for having done so) and the towns of Ólafsfjörður, Dalvík, Hauganes, Árskógssandur, Grenivík and Húsavík are all within an hour's drive away, with everything that they have to offer.
Whether you want to go whale watching, horseback riding, heli-skiing, hiking, cycling, sailing, flying, visit a brewery or go on a guided tour into the Highlands, you will find the right activity for you. Not to mention all the natural beauty there is to take in, including spectacular waterfalls like Goðafoss and Aldeyjarfoss and of course the Lake Mývatn area.
